The first thing people tend to do when they have lost their keys is panic. It is a natural reaction. You may fear what could happen if someone has access to your home or is now able to steal your car. This can be a very stressful situation, indeed. However, as we all know, panicking will not help in this situation. A calm head will usually yield positive results. Even if you do not find the keys you are looking for, at least you will be able to think more rationally and take steps to minimize stress. When You Lose Your Keys

Practical Suggestions

It is easy to think about all of the things that could happen if someone has your keys. However, force yourself to stop and breath. Next, follow a few of the suggestions presented, you may just find out that your keys were under your nose all along.

Retrace Your Steps. This may seem logical, yet it is something that many people simply do not take the time to do. If you have small, school age children and a household to manage, it can be challenging to trace your steps. However, taking the necessary time to retrace your steps may result in your keys being found. Think about the last place you remember seeing them, ask people if they have found or seen your keys at any of the places you visited throughout the day.

Look Carefully. Slow down and check carefully. When we are in a hurry, we tend to overlook things. When we slow down, we can see things more clearly. Check in between things. Pick up things. Don’t throw things around; the keys may be inside of whatever you are throwing around. You would be surprised at some of the places people leave their keys.

Ask for Help. When possible, ask someone to help you look for your keys. This within itself can become frustrating, especially if they are asking you a lot of questions. However, several people looking helps increase the chance of your keys being found.

If none of the suggestions listed help you locate your keys, now you will have to take some decisive action. If you have lost your home keys, call a locksmith immediately to change the locks. This is a matter of safety and security. Also notify the police, whether it is your car key or house key. In case an incident should occur they have everything they need on record.
